This specialist course is designed for aesthetics and skincare practitioners looking to expand their treatment menu and confidently treat clients presenting with pigmentation concerns. You’ll learn the theory behind pigmentation, client assessment and consultation, the Cosmelan treatment protocol, professional application and comprehensive homecare and aftercare.

The course combines in-depth theory with practical, hands-on training, allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills required to incorporate Cosmelan treatments into your practice.

Course Content

• Understanding Pigmentation – Learn about the different types of pigmentation and the factors that can contribute to hyperpigmentation, including hormonal changes, UV exposure, inflammation and skin trauma. Understand the differences between concerns such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and sun-induced pigmentation.
• Skin Assessment & Fitzpatrick Skin Types – Develop your knowledge of skin types and phototypes and learn how to assess the skin before treatment. You’ll learn how to identify suitable candidates for Cosmelan and recognise when treatment may need to be postponed or avoided.
• Treatment Protocol – Learn the professional Cosmelan treatment protocol, including skin preparation, professional application and the principles behind the treatment. Understand how the professional treatment works alongside the prescribed homecare programme.
• Consultation & Treatment Planning – Learn how to conduct a thorough consultation, medical history and skin assessment. You’ll develop treatment plans based on the individual client’s pigmentation concerns, skin condition and treatment goals, while ensuring realistic expectations are established.
• Contraindications & Treatment Safety – Understand the key contraindications, precautions and considerations associated with Cosmelan treatments. The course also covers client suitability, treatment safety, recognising unsuitable skin and when treatment should be postponed or referred.
• Professional Treatment Application – Receive a detailed tutor demonstration of the Cosmelan treatment before completing practical training. Learn correct preparation and application techniques while following the manufacturer’s professional protocol.
• Homecare & Aftercare – Understand the importance of the ongoing homecare programme following the professional treatment. Learn how to provide clients with clear instructions regarding skincare, SPF, sun avoidance, product use and expected skin responses.
• Managing Skin Reactions – Learn about expected responses such as redness, dryness, sensitivity and peeling, as well as how to advise clients throughout the treatment process. Understand when a reaction may be outside the expected response and when further professional advice may be required.
• Client Follow-Up & Treatment Management – Learn how to monitor client progress, provide appropriate follow-up advice and support clients throughout their treatment journey. You’ll also cover treatment records, consent and documenting client progress.
